Nissan 4x4 (Diesel)
Firstly known as Datson, meaning “Son of Dat” was shortly changed to Datsun because in Japanese “Son” also means “Loss”
In 1914 the first Datsun was built, then in 1933 Nissan Motor Co. Ltd was established in Japan. Shortly after in 1937 the Datsun Type 15 became the first mass produced vehicle in Japan.
In 1958 the first Datsun sedan arrived in the United States with it’s 1200cc 48hp engine! Then in 1959 followed the first Datsun pick-up to be sold in America. With its 1000cc 37hp engine and an upgrade model featuring the 1200cc 48hp engine Datsun had firmly established their presence in the American market.
The sixties saw Datsun producing sports cars. Firstly came the 2000 roadster known for its style and performance then shortly after came the Datsun Z changing the way we looked at the sports car market.
1962 brought Nissan’s first utility vehicle, the Patrol. With it’s 4000cc 6-cylinder 145hp engine, it was believed to be the worlds most powerful and most advanced 4x4 to date.
The 1970’s found Nissan winning a number of championship races with the Datsun 510 resulting in a higher demand of vehicles from the public. In 1973 the one-millionth Datsun vehicle was sold in America and by 1975 Datsun became the top U.S. vehicle importer and in 1977 the first extended cab pick-up was introduced, the Nissan King-cab.
The King-cab was to be the source of victory from 1982-1992 for Nissan, winning 19 championships in the off-road truck racing with its 380hp mid-engine permanent 4WD desert racer with fully independent suspension.
In 1983 the Datsun name was dropped and the name Nissan became the new marketing tool. Now a very well known brand for producing all types of vehicles, Nissan continue to exceed their consumers expectations.
